Kit Plays Playdoh!

Hi! It's rainy today, so I (Kit) decided to play playdoh.

Playdoh is fun to squish and squeeze!

I'm making my handprint!

Isn't it great?!?!

Next, I made a family of snakes.

When I finished playing with them, I smushed them all together!

I'm going to show you how to make a pizza now. First make a ball.

Then smush it flat.

Make a littler ball now...

and form it to look like sauce!

Add that to your pizza!

Now for cheese, make tiny snakes.

And make a LOT of them!

For pepperonis, make some tiny balls...

and smush them flat!

Tada!

The options are endless as to what you can make when you play play doh!

Dolls Having Fun!

Hi! I took some pictures yesterday of my dolls enjoying their hobbies. I edited them today and thought I would share them!

Emily enjoys mixing different styles of clothing...she hopes to be a fashion designer some day. This is outfit she plans to wear on the first day of school.

Rebecca is busy practicing her part for a big production she has coming up soon. This scene involves a twirly dance.

Molly has been playing detective this summer. She has finally recovered the stolen autograph! (Anyone have a final guess as to who was guilty?) When she's not searching for clues, she likes to read in the barn with Midnight.

Samantha has drawn this pencil sketch of herself! She likes art, in this sketch she is drawing Kit's butterflies.

Kit is gearing up for soccer season! She is stretching out as a warm up for her next game.

Ellen is working on her photography a lot this summer. Love this photo of her!

So, what do you think of my handmade kites? I had originally wanted to them to fly them on the 4th, but didn't get time. Oh well! :)

Dressing Civil War

When it rains like this all the time...I have trouble thinking up things to do with my dolls. Sorry for the length of time in between posts!

I've been reenacting this month...and this coming week I will be doing a Civil War day! This of course, is making me in sort of a "Civil War" mood. It's even being reflected in my doll play.

So today, I'm going to teach you how to dress your doll in Civil War costume!

This is the "shift." A lady wore this all the time and rarely changed it. (perhaps once a year.) She wore it like her skin, but it also served as her nightgown.

In the morning, first come the bloomers. The shift is stuffed into them.

Next comes the tightly laced corset. This ensures that a lady sits up straight!

After that comes the hoop, for added fullness to the skirt. (these are normally covered in cotton. Mine is not.)

After the hoop, a few petti coats are added.

Then, a cotton dress.

Dress the hair, and add a bonnet to keep the sun off.

Wool socks and boots complete the look.

She's beautiful!

PS. The hoop was fairly easy to make. I used 3 embroidery hoops! Tie them together with some cord. You can always take it apart when you're done!

Ellen's First Outdoor Adventure!

Ellen just arrived to here to live with my other dolls at Christmas, so she hasn't had any chance to visit our backyard yet, due to all of the rain and snow we've had. Today, however, we had a little time to go out together!

First we went to the front porch to check on our flower boxes.

Ellen used Kit's watering can to water a few of the pansies.

Ellen loved seeing all the lovely pansies!

Then we went to the backyard. "Wow! It's beautiful out here!" Ellen said.

We went up to our playset and Ellen swung on the rings.

Back in the woods, Ellen found a daffodil! "It really is spring!" she said.

Then, Ellen climbed the ladder to the tree house. This was her first visit to it ever!

Ellen took in the sights. (Yes, I realize our table is broken, it needs serious repair)

Then she discovered the pulley.

Ellen had to be very careful. One step back would send her flying at least 12 feet down!

Ellen's favorite spot in the whole tree house was the window.

Suddenly, it looked like rain, so to keep Ellen from getting wet, we ran inside.

Ellen checked on the herbs we are growing inside, just to make sure they had enough water.

Not long after, it started to rainshower! We had perfect timing.

Even though we didn't spend much time outside, Ellen loved her first outdoor adventure! More outdoor adventures to come soon!
