Cousins

I haven't posted for a few days...my cousin flew in a few days ago and we've been playing American girls together. A fashion show, a tea party and a sleepover? What could be better! Here's some pictures of Kit and her cousin (my cousin's doll), Kit! (can I use the word "cousin" one more time???? :))
Cousin Kit, wearing pjs that match my cousin's! My Aunt made these pjs by buying a pair on sale and cutting the top off, sewing the side and a triangle for the legs! That way she didn't have to add the elastic. The shirt Cousin Kit is wearing also matches another shirt of my cousin's. My Aunt constructed that on off of the neckline of a shirt. (some thrifty ideas for fellow seamstresses!)

Kit and Kit. My Kit is on the right. Can you see diffrerences in them? I think Cousin Kit has a more round face and her eyes are set further apart. Her eyebrows are also more defined. We also figured out that my Kit has a thicker wig. Not every AG doll is the same!!!

My cousin and little sister set up this tea party.

After the party, dressed in PJs and ready for bed. Can you guess which Kit is which?

Mess after the tea party. :)

My cousin got Sugar, the American Girl dog for Christmas.

Isn't she cute?

Young Girl In the 1940s Shoot 2

Here's another shoot! This time it's Emily. Her hair was dry enough to take out today. I LOVE how it turned out.

One of my very favorites. It was again taken in film grain, no flash.

Resource Wednesday On Thursday (Again!)

Well, sometimes my Wednesdays are just so busy I can't get my resource posted. Sorry. Here it is though! Hey, the goal is to get it posted once a week, right?
Doll School-By American Girl

This is one that I actually own and LOVE! It's an American girl kit. That means it includes a  LOT of stuff! It has a photo booklet with ideas for you doll school room,  and tons and tons of stuff, including:
-an easel
-a whiteboard and chalkboard
-posters
-stickers and instructions for making doll sized books
-a wrap around the room banner with cursive letters
-a dolls sized copy of "Meet Rebecca"
-math papers
-spelling tests
-journals
-a gradebook
-hall passes
-library cards
-report cards
-lunch tickets
-AND WAY MORE!!!

I will post some pictures of it another time. I know you can buy it on American Girl and Amazon, but you can't get it at the library.  Not a bad buy for all it includes. Best part is it comes with enough for 4 dolls. If you have more than that, you can photo copy everything!!

Sweet Shoppe

Today's "shoot" comes in a bit of a different form. The shoot is more of a photo story, therefore is not black and white. I decided it would be nice to depict two girls in the Sweet Shoppe.

Miss Walker is a young attendant at the Sweet Shoppe.

Candy options

A customer enters!

"Hello! I'd like to buy some candy please."

The customer begins to select her candy

and the attendant adds the items to the bag.

"Thank you!"

"Oh, I'll add one more thing please. A vanilla ice cream soda."

"Coming right up!"

"Here you are! Have a nice day!" Miss Walker says.
 "I will!"

PREPERATION PREVIEW:
Here's what's coming! I'll be having a shoot with Emily soon. I rolled her hair today so it will be curly!

Wearing a turban to keep her hair from wetting her bed.
Maybe if this works out well I'll do a tutorial on how to curl doll's hair!!

Young Girl in the 1940s Photo Shoot

Sometimes I like to step out of the normal doll world and dress up one of my girls and do a shoot. I thought it would be fun to post a few of them this week. Here is the first one:
                                                                                                                                Rebecca As
                                 Young Girl in the 1940s

I realize the 2 below and the the last may look grainy and or have too much light. I was kind of going for this look to make it look like a real 40s photograph. You can look for a "film grain" setting on your camera to get this look.

Valentine's Day Ideas

Hmmm....wonder what I should do for Valentine's Day? It's one of my favorite holidays and I always do something with the dolls. Last year I had a school Valentine's dance. Here is a picture:
My dolls also usually make and exchange Valentines. The pictures below are constructing Valentine Boxes.

So...what should I do this year? I will definately make Valentines. But as for an event.... Should I....
have have a Valentine Brunch, tea or dinner?
have another annual Valentine Dance?
have a Valentine exchange party with games, punch and cookies?
Do you have another idea? Leave a comment with your vote and I'll decide soon!!

Sick

Every winter it seems to happen and my dolls get down with a bug.
Kit has an ear infection. She was enjoying some toast and a cookie in this picture.

Samantha has a nasty stomach bug.

Molly has come down witha high fever since coming home from school this afternoon.

Emily has about the same, but she is able to stay awake to read and text.

Rebecca has been almost unconscious for several days now. It's all Nurse (see below) can do to get her to drink and take her medicine! She also has a fever and a terrible cough.

Ellen is the only one who is not sick. She's been keeping a careful record of who gets medicine when, offering blankets and pillows, making food and finding proper entertainment for all the girls.

See? Here we have Chicken noodle soup, Orange Juice, and medicine!
Hoping my girls feel better soon!

PS. That is NOT real medicine in the picture. It's shower gel and a mini Tabasco sauce.

Resource Wednesday On Thursday!!!

Sorry I didn't get my post done on Resource Wednesday. :) Oh well. I can do it a day late, right? Well, here it is:
Rescource Wednesday Week 2:
Things To Make Your Doll, By Kathy Ross
There it is! I don't own this book, I picked it up at the library. It has all kinds of little things you can make out of household items...including a sock bathing suit or sundress, a hermit crab cage and various peices of jewelry and picture frames. (and of course, a lot more.) The sock dress is my favorite. You take an old sock and cut the bottom off and it turns into a purse. The sock becomes a swim suit (by sewing or pinning the bottom together) or if you get fancy you can add a skirt. Then I took felt and buttons and glues them on to decorate. So much fun! I will post some photos of my sock outfits later.
